PISTACHIO CHAIN MAIL VEIL
Curator Waratah Lahy invited me to create new work for a group exhibition at Craft and Design Canberra titled Speculative Materialism: Making for the Future. This exhibition explores the evolving role of artistic practice in a world with an increasingly complex relationship with material sourcing, use and disposal.
For this exhibition, I artisanally created a veil using waste pistachio shells – a discursive piece exploring the potential role of food waste in addressing our material needs.
As an extension of this exhibition, I ran a regenerative design workshop exploring how jewellery can be made from commonly disposed of domestic waste, and wrote an article about the exhibition for Matters Journal.
You can also check out the exhibition catalogue, featuring a compelling catalogue essay by Erica Seccombe.
Speculative Materialism: Making for the Future runs from Nov 1 – Dec 14, 2024.
